I just bought a 96 Savage last week. I've been having an absolute blast on it! It is my first bike, and I'm loving every minute of it.
I wanted to post to say thank you to all of you for providing tons of useful information.
The first day I really took it out and got the engine heated up, I was distraught (and a little embarrassed) to discover that it backfired every time I shut off the engine. I hit the web immediately, and found this listing...and was relieved to read that mine is not an isolated occurence. I've since discovered that if I pull the choke all the way out just before I shut off the engine, that it doesn't backfire...it let's out more of a "sigh of relief".
I'm figuring I'll have a look at taking out the white spacer, and drilling out the brass screw come winter time. For now though, I'm just living it up!!!
